INTP – The Thinkers
The logical and analytical type. They are especialy attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications.

They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about.

What are you?

I’m interested in video games and how they’re becoming one of the primary narrative delivery devices for kids, and especially boys these days.

1) anything that spills over the pot automatically burns on the glass.
2) any water underneath a kettle causes the kettle to magically levitate and slide off the burner as the water turns to steam.
3) it’s not as hot as a traditional coil stove.
4) it’s not as adjustable as a gas stove.

Dumb in all ways. But hey, it looks so snazzy.

“Actually, I wish I could not just poop like a rabbit, I wish I could eat my poop like a rabbit. It seems like a great step up in efficiency.”

“No. Never mind. It’s just a compensation for an inefficiency. Scratch the idea.”

“I’d still like to poop like a rabbit.”

The amount of time it takes to craft a post, only have it re-interpreted or mis-interpreted or simply ignored is horrific. Over and over, I tangle myself in discussions that could probably be productive and interesting if only they were occurring in person rather than online, but instead, the result is either a train wreck, or a massive time sink, or both.

This comes to mind as I just dropped a couple hours ranting on Daniel Abraham’s blog about GMO’s. Not a waste of time, but jeez, why didn’t I just pick up the phone and chat with Daniel instead? I would have been happier, the discussion would have been richer, and it wouldn’t have taken any more time than doing all that typing. Probably less. When did we become so satisfied with this inadequate medium? How did it become so ubiquitous when it is so clearly inadequate?

It’s a compulsion to communicate. But the communication that the internet fosters seems to mostly be an illusion.

Members are:

- not opposed to alcohol.

- fond of IPCC reports (especially the pictures).

- mostly in agreement with the “truth.”

- into badges.

- grieving for the slow and miserable death of the Hubble Space Telescope.

- possibly possessed of supernatural powers.

- not in the business of total world domination

- committed to the constant and diligent presentation of science stories, be it to editors, producers, directors, educators, relatives and/or friends of various ilk, in an effort to lessen the gap that is this thing we call public scientific literacy.

We need more of these guys. And they have groovy merit badges.
