Podcast of “The People of Sand and Slag”

When I was out at SF in SF, Rick Kleffel of the Agony Column recorded my reading of “The People of Sand and Slag.” If you’re one of those people who likes audio, I don’t stumble too much as I read. :-) Rick also recorded our after-reading panel discussion where Terry Bisson, Carter Scholz and I all wax thoughtful about sf. It was an interesting conversation and the audience had great questions (though they aren’t mic’ed well so you have to crank up the volume and listen carefully to hear them). And finally, I want to link to Carter Scholz’s reading as well. We only met at the event,...

A chat with Michelle Nijhuis

Posted on Feb 23, 2008 in Appearances |

Award-winning science journalist Michelle Nijhuis interviews me over at Grist Magazine. We have a conversation about the connections between the work she does as a science journalist and how I work as a science fiction writer… and how a lot of her articles directly inspire the stories I write. If you go over to her website, she’s got tons of stories posted about everything from global warming to the impacts of invasive species. Great...

MileHi Con, Yes; World Fantasy, No.

I’m going to be at MileHiCon at the end of this month (Oct 26,27,28), doing a reading (probably from the novel in progress) and also a panel or two. That’s the good thing. I’m really looking forward to getting out of town and meeting up with various writer friends. The bad thing is that I’m not going to be attending the World Fantasy Convention this year. A bunch of different things came together and made a perfect storm. Dropping out of the job put the squeeze on finances, and we’ve got MileHiCon and Diwali sandwiching it, which made for a hectic schedule. Also, I’d hoped to have my book...

All of sudden, and at the last moment, I’m going to be attending Readercon, out in Burlington, MA, in the early part of July. I’m probably going to be doing a couple panels and also a reading and kaffeeklatch. http://www.readercon.org/ for details. I’m looking forward to the...

In New York City

I’m in New York City for the Nebula Awards and James Gunn’s induction into SF Grand-Masterdom. Check it out, this is the view from my friend Doug’s apartment. It’s so high… Pretty nifty, huh? I feel like I clicked my heels and teleported out of Kansas. Right now, I’m waiting for him to get back from work so we can eat dinner. I’m guessing we’re going to go out because… He appears to be a...
