Best Bookstore in Bangkok
February 7th, 2007 | by Paolo |I ran a across a cozy bookstore in Bangkok’s Bowonnivej area called Passport Books on Pra Sumeru Road, not far from the Queen’s Gallery.
It’s run by Num and Yo, an eclectic pair who have put together a wonderful independent bookstore, a nice alternative to places like Asia Books and other mall bookstores that dominate the city.
Thammasat University students and grads often drop in to have iced coffees and milkshakes and write or chat at the small tables in the shop. Books are mostly in Thai, with a small English language section. Num was kind enough to introduce me to works by Chart Korbjitti, a Thai writer who as been translated into English, and provides an edgy window into modern Thailand.
If you’re ever in Bangkok, it’s an oasis.
